WORLD MALARIA DAY 2018

World Malaria Day programme 23rd - 25th April 2018

Title: Ready to Beat Malaria in the State of Osun, Nigeria

The Department of Family Medicine, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals in collaboration with Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife and the Osun State Ministry of Health are organizing the following programs to mark the World Malaria Day 2018:


  1. A special CME program is planned for 25th April 2018 at the Lekan Badru House , Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex focusing on Holistic approach to the management of Malaria with the following topics for consideration:
    1. Management of malaria with treatment failure
    2. Holistic approach for the management of malaria in Adult population: the latest guideline.
    3. Management of malaria in children and pregnant women.
    4. Antimalaria drug interaction: A guide for physicians on drug prescriptions and potential side effects.
    5. Negative parasitaemia/submicroscopic malaria: any need for treatment?

  2. The target audience are primary health givers across the various local governments in the State of Osun.

  3. Screening for malaria with concomitant treatment of those who have malaria will be done simultaneously in IHU as well as in Wesley Guild Hospital.
  4. A Community outreach programme in selected rural communities (Akeredolu and Yekemi, Ife East LGA) featuring health talks on malaria prevention strategies, need for early presentation in primary care facilities, and distribution of bed nets.
  5. A Live Radio programme will take place on the 23rd and 24th of April 2018 focusing on Malaria preventive tools and the need to support global efforts at eradicating malaria from the world. Special interactive session on preventing children from dying from malaria will also feature.
  6. A Newspaper publication aimed at reaching policy makers titled “Eradicating Malaria from Nigeria: Myth or Reality” will be published in one of the major daily newspapers on the 25th April, 2018.
